The Chicago Bulls, playing without Derrick Rose much of the season, know what it feels like to be thin in an area of need. They rushed out to sign Kirk Hinrich and Nate Robinson and drafted Marquis Teague to fill the backcourt this offseason.
The frontcourt is an entirely different story. Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson anchor a team filled with big bodies. And Gibson might be the most versatile of all. He can play both forward positions and Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has even considered playing him at backup center to replace Omer Asik, who departed for the Houston Rockets.
"I like the fact we have several guys who can play multiple positions," Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune. "We don?t necessarily have to go small against people. We can go big."
Imagine a lineup with 6-9 small forward Luol Deng at shooting guard?that?s big. In that group, reserve Vladimir Radmanovic, a stretch power forward who can shoot the 3-pointer, would come in as a small forward.
The team?s starting lineup is expected to be Hinrich, Richard Hamilton, Deng, Boozer and Noah, the Chicago Tribune notes. Even with a solid lineup sans Rose, expect Thibodeau to shake things up.
"There?s a lot of flexibility to our roster, which I like," Thibodeau said.
